A good wooden paddle can last for many years — but it does need a little attention once in a while.
If your paddle is starting to look dry, faded or worn, that doesn't necessarily mean there's anything wrong with it. An oil-finished paddle can simply be cleaned up and given a fresh coat of oil to help protect the wood and bring the finish back to life.
In the video below, I'll show you how I maintain and re-oil my wooden paddles, including the basic preparation and oiling process I use.

A little maintenance goes a long way.
An oil-finished wooden paddle doesn't need to look brand new forever. Scratches, marks and a little wear are part of using it. But when the wood starts looking dry, a little cleaning, light preparation and a fresh coat of oil can bring it right back and help protect it for many more years on the water.
What Oil Do I Recommend?
For maintaining my wooden paddles, I recommend 100% pure tung oil. Be careful when shopping—some products labelled “Tung Oil Finish” are not actually pure tung oil.
This is the type of 100% pure tung oil I recommend and use for maintaining wooden paddles.
