A versatile, handcrafted canoe paddle — equally at home in shallow water or out on the open lake.
The Neebing was designed as an all-around canoe paddle — one you can reach for whether you're exploring shallow rivers and backwaters or spending the day paddling deeper lakes.
Its 24" blade is short enough to remain practical in shallower water, while providing plenty of blade for smooth, efficient paddling in deeper water. Carefully shaped thin blade edges enter and exit the water cleanly, giving the Neebing a smooth, efficient feel through every stroke.
Handcrafted from Premium Woods
Each Neebing is laminated primarily from carefully selected Western Red Cedar, with occasional accent strips of premium woods such as cherry or ash.
Every paddle is individually shaped and sanded by hand before being finished with multiple coats of 100% pure Tung Oil. The natural oil finish brings out the character of the wood while leaving the paddle with the warm, comfortable feel of wood in your hands.
No two are exactly alike.
Why "Neebing"?
Every paddle should have a story. This one starts close to home.
The Neebing River flows only about 100 metres from the workshop where these paddles are handcrafted. It's the river each Neebing paddle is named after — and the river just down the road from where every one of them is born.
The Neebing Blade
The Neebing's relatively short, slender blade is what gives the paddle much of its versatility.

Maximum blade width: just under 6"
It's a true all-around design: short enough for shallower rivers and waterways, yet equally comfortable paddling deeper water and open lakes.
Built by a Paddler
Joe O'Blenis has handcrafted and sold more than 2,000 paddles, drawing on a lifetime of canoeing, sea kayaking and expedition paddling — including a solo canoe journey across Canada and two record-setting sea kayak circumnavigations of Vancouver Island.
That experience has always been an important part of how Joe's paddles are designed and built.
These aren't simply paddles made in a woodworking shop. They're built by someone who has spent a lifetime using paddles.

The Neebing is available in overall lengths from 54" to 62".
We try to keep Neebing paddles in stock in several popular sizes. If your preferred size isn't currently available, Joe can build one specifically for you. Please allow up to a few weeks for a made-to-order paddle.
